Aerospace and defense plants need workplace safety training for chemicals, hazardous waste and shipping, not only the shop floor. ETC trains plant teams in hazard communication, RCRA hazardous waste, DOT hazmat and IATA dangerous goods, plus OSHA courses such as arc flash and confined space, on-site or in Phoenix and Tucson.
This page covers workplace safety for manufacturing plants. For FAA flight operations or aviation safety management systems, you need an aviation training provider.

Where aerospace plants carry the most compliance risk
Most safety providers stop at the shop floor. In aerospace, the bigger exposure often sits in the paint booth, the waste room and the shipping dock, and few providers teach OSHA, RCRA, DOT and IATA under one roof. We do.
Chemicals
Coatings, solvents, sealants and adhesives are part of every build. Everyone who handles them needs hazard communication training on the products your plant actually uses, backed by a written hazard communication program that matches them.
Hazardous waste
Paint and solvent waste make many aerospace plants RCRA generators. Large quantity generators must train waste handlers and review that training every year under 40 CFR 262.17, and keep a RCRA contingency plan ready for a spill or fire.
Shipping
Parts, chemicals and lithium batteries shipped by road or air are regulated as hazardous materials. Your shipping team needs DOT hazmat training at least every three years under 49 CFR 172.704, and IATA dangerous goods training every 24 months for air shipments. One mislabeled box can stop a shipment at the carrier and put a fine on your plant.
Training for aerospace and defense teams
We can train your shipping team and your plant team in the same visit, so you book one provider and one schedule instead of three.
Teams we train
Teams we have trained include Crane Aerospace & Electronics, Virgin Galactic and Sargent Aerospace & Defense. We also train medical device and pharma plants with the same chemical, waste and shipping exposure, including Abbott, Stryker and Medtronic.
Working with defense primes
ETC is a woman-owned small business (WOSB). When you subcontract training to ETC, that spend can count toward your small business and woman-owned small business subcontracting goals. You get a certified small business partner and a training provider in the same contract.
How on-site plant training works
- Scoping call. We map each department to the training it owes and the dates it is due.
- Training at your site. Classes use your chemicals, your waste streams and your shipping procedures.
- Scheduled around production. We work around shifts, shipping deadlines and line downtime.
- Records ready for audits. Certificates and completion records for your files, ready for customer and registrar audits.
For a few workers, open-enrollment classes in Phoenix and Tucson hold up to 20 seats.
FAQs
How often is IATA dangerous goods training required?
Every 24 months under the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Our IATA refresher is a one-day class built for that renewal.
How often is DOT hazmat training required?
At least every three years under 49 CFR 172.704, and within 90 days for a new hazmat employee.
Do RCRA generators need annual training?
Yes for large quantity generators: 40 CFR 262.17 requires an annual review of hazardous waste training. Small quantity generators have lighter requirements, and we can tell you which category your plant falls in.
Can you train a shipping team and a plant team in the same visit?
Yes. We can cover DOT and IATA for shipping, plus OSHA, RCRA or arc flash for the plant, in one on-site visit.
